VIDIFI’s trade union and youth union visited the Treatment and Nursing Center for Wounded Soldiers in Thuan Thanh District on the occasion of Dead and wounded soldiers’ day (27th July)

Representing the tradition “when drinking water, remember who dug the well” and on the occasion of the 63rd anniversary of Dead and wounded soldiers’ day (27th July 1947 – 27th July 2010),

VIDIFI’s trade union and youth union came to visit, shared, encouraged and gave presents to wounded soldiers at the Treatment and Nursing Center for Wounded Soldiers inThuan Thanh District, Bac Ninh Province on 21st July 2010.

The Treatment and Nursing Center for Wounded Soldiers (belonging to Ministry of Labor, Invalid and Social Affairs) is assigned to manage, nurse, treat and implement policies on heavily wounded soldiers of 23 provinces and cities nationwide. The center is located in Ninh Xa commune, Thuan Thanh District, Bac Ninh province (35 km away from Hanoi towards North-East).

The VIDIFI’s delegation arrived at the Center at around 03 P.M. The delegation was openly and warmly welcomed by the Center’s leaders, doctors, nurses and wounded soldiers at the Center.

During the visit, Mr. Nguyen Khac Du, director of the Center told us there are 100 wounded soldiers being nursed and treated at the Center, of that 70 soldiers are heavily wounded as a result of wounds in their skull and spine paralyzing half of their body, some have lost both hands, some have lost both legs, some have atrophied legs, some have gangrenous legs which are so serious that they feel nothing when being bitten by mice (their skin looses painful feeling), some have legs, hands cut as a result of disintegrated shell fragments, some have over 100 shell fragments in their body, most of the soldiers have to use wheelchairs for their daily activities, such these soldiers have no wives or husbands, they can not live at their own home or come to visit their fatherland, they shall live at the Center for the rest of their lives. The remaining 30 soldiers are living with their families in the Center’s precinct, they stay in the wheelchairs and vend things, do some work such as repairing cassette, rewinding electric fans, growing Vietnamese traditional medicine plants and fruit trees etc., some of their children have grown up, some are studying at universities, some have postgraduate degrees and some are working for prestigious businesses in Bac Ninh Province.

After having talked, encouraged, shared and given presents to the soldiers, we were taken to visit the Center’s precinct and houses where the soldiers and soldiers’ families live, the garden with Vietnam traditional medicine plants and the garden with fruit trees cared and grown by the soldiers etc. We also talked with each of the soldiers and understood more about their personal lives and how they live at the Center.

In bad weather days, wounded and sick soldiers have to suffer from physical and mental pain due to recurrence of their wounds. However, doctors and nurses at the Center are always by their side and give them whole-hearted, thoughtful assistance and nursing.

Seeing the lives of wounded and sick soldiers at the Center with our own eyes, we have understood more about pains they have suffered from. They have sacrificed themselves for the peaceful, happy and well-being life of our generations. Moreover, they have overcome their physical pain to work for themselves and contribute to the society representing the characteristic of Uncle Ho’s soldiers “disabled but not worthless”.

By visiting and giving presents to the wounded soldiers at the Center, VIDIFI’s unions want to make small contribution to the Center to share some difficulties with the soldiers and their families and to express gratitude to the wounded soldiers at the Center who have sacrificed themselves for the independence, freedom, union and territorial integrity of Vietnam.

This is a useful activity of VIDIFI’ trade union and youth union towards the Dead and wounded soldiers’ day as well as one of VIDIFI’s regular social activities in the past time.
